The Finishing School

It's so satisfying as a mom to see my baby girl grow to love something that I love.  Birkley has been taking sewing lessons at The Finishing School for about 18 months now, and she loves it.  I love sewing and I love The Finishing School.  I took sewing lessons there as a kid from about 3rd grade on.  Once I turned 14, they hired me as a teacher and I taught sewing lessons after school all through junior high & high school.  Not only did I learn a life-long skill in sewing, I had a great job that funded all my clothing wants, my dance-date nights, country dancing on Wednesdays, gas for my car, lunch at Shivers instead of school lunch, fun.  I also learned confidence, responsibility, kindness.  I was worked with good people who became life-long friends.  I learned a lot. I was grateful and happy to have a job.
Now, 18 years later (since my first working days), my 7 year old is sitting in front of the sewing machine learning a life-long skill, gaining confidence, being happy.  It is so fun to see her work hard, focus, learn new things, be herself.  I am proud of her.  I am proud that she really works hard at her sewing projects.  I am proud that she is happy doing something that she loves.  I am proud that she loves something I love.
So, today, I am grateful for The Finishing School.  I am grateful for this wonderful place that helped me to become the person I am today and the wonderful place that is helping Birkley figure out what kind of amazing girl she is.
