I have very few memories of Halloween as a kid. I'm not sure why. I remember feeling like Halloween wasn't that big of a deal at our house when I was little and feeling a little less than enthusiastic about my final costume choices. Looking back now, it was probably because my mom had 2 little babies running around and didn't have time to make it a big deal. Fine, whatever, I'm over it. (sort of) So, now that I'm the mom, I try HARD to make sure my kids are happy with their costumes and try to make Halloween as big of a deal as I can. Halloween at school is so FUN. CRAZY, but fun. The morning starts off with craziness at home with last minute touches to costumes and rushing to get to school on time because the note from the kindergarten said 3 times, "DO NOT BE LATE!". Parade at 9:15..which really ends up being 9:45 by the time all the classes walk through the gym. Then class parties.
Wilder & I were in charge of Bingo in the kindergarten. Super cute kindergarteners. Peyton just kept flashing me her shy smile, letting me know she was glad I was there. One kindergarten boy just kept telling me he was "Super Why" every time I tried to call him Jonathan.
Once Bingo was over, Wilder & I headed to the 2nd grade where I won brownie points from Birkley for just being there, I didn't even have to be in charge of a game, I just enjoyed myself emmensely when I got to sit in the hallway and chat with a new friend I made, the mom of MO in Birkley's class. Wilder ran freely through the 2nd grade halls, munching on any candy he could find and gracing me with his presence when he ran out of things to munch on. A good morning I think.
It was a short day, no school on Friday, teacher comp day or something (which seem really lame as a mom now, but as a teacher I LOVED those days and ached for their return), so the morning quickly came to an end, and the school day quickly came to an end. A good start to the 3 day Halloween holiday. I'm tired.

when i was student teaching i was so excited for halloween. my cooperating teacher was so raunchy about it. i thought she was such a scrooge. after my first year as a real live teacher on halloween i remember sitting at my desk thinking, "what in the crap just happened. i'm exhausted!" it was still really fun, and i loved seeing all of the costumes. by the time i was pregnant and teaching 2nd here i wanted to get a sub for halloween. i never tried to do real "work" that day. i almost wanted to get out my halloween word searches and pumpkin projects this year, but then i thought of all of the work that would go into finding the box they were in. maybe in another year when brennan actually gets projects.
