So, with basically no training, Matt got Shooter (otherwise known as Alan) on board, and coersed (I have no idea how to spell that word) Hoppy (otherwise known as Bryce) into racing too. It seemed as if Matt and Bryce did all their training in 1 week, 2 swims, 2 or 3 bike rides and a couple of runs...then the race.
I was reminded the morning of the race how life with 3 kids has gotten a tad hectic. I was left to drive Matt's car, full of his cheering squad, the 3 munchkins. Matt had put the 3 carseats (2 boosters and a base) into the Accord, which we had never tried before..quite a sight! The 3 of them were squished in there like sardines! Anyway, getting 3 kids dressed, hair done, breakfast eaten, teeth brushed, buckeled up and ready to drive away....all by 8:30 am was a miracle in itself. We made it in plenty of time to see Matt standing in line waiting to start his swim. It's pretty cool to watch, you can just feel everyone's adrenaline pumping. Your goal as a spectator is to keep your eyes off the speedos! Luckily, no one drown, Matt didn't drown and I'm pretty sure he didn't get lapped this year!
Transitions are always interesting. The kids thought it was pretty funny to see their dads running in their swimsuits with no shoes on over to their bikes. If you were watching closely to Matt's bike transition you would have gotten quite a view of his REAR as he sneakily changed from suit to biking shorts. With a pep talk from Birkley (see photo below), off he went up the mountian, while us wives and children played the waiting game. Luckily, I had the girls bring their scooters, so they rode around and entertained themselves. It was a chilly day, but a fun day. Below are some photos from the race. Maybe next year, I'll be up for it!
